I will admit, what we do as dietitians in general is misconstrued by almost everyone. Beyond that, each dietitian (especially those in private practice) have their own style, system, and focus area. I thought I would break down my initial “Get Started Package” to clarify everything and ensure you know how you are about to progress into your journey.
First of all, let’s discuss WHO I work with. I help clients increase energy, balance hormones and mood, enhance cognition, improve stress resilience, and heal their gut symptoms. I do this by tackling key nutrition, supplement, mindset, and lifestyle areas.
Nutrition Counseling, What is It?
Most people think we just tell people what to do and what is “right” or “wrong”- which is not the case. Although we do act as a guide based on research, our own education, seeing many different clients, and our own health journeys; we also really act as a sounding board and mirror to help clients feel empowered in their decisions and connect back to their bodies. In our sessions, we help clients navigate through weekly challenges, reflect on their actions, connect their symptoms back to their habits, troubleshoot ideas, and set weekly attainable goals. In the 3 month “Get Started Package” there are 12 30 minute weekly sessions to really gain momentum and start a lifelong change.
Resources Included Outside of Sessions
I believe education about what is going on in your body is empowering, so I have provided videos and a curriculum for outside of sessions, including reflection worksheets. The topics include foundational habits, mindset, meal prepping, blood sugar balance, inflammation, cortisol and circadian rhythm, gut health, brain health, and long term change. This was developed over needs I’ve seen with years of practice.
Individualized supplement recommendations and lab reviews can also be included. Supplement recommendations are through Fullscript, and clients receive 10% off. Lab reviews include a discussion of your values compared to the “optimal range” and a nutrition, movement, and lifestyle action plan based on your values. This can include an analysis of labs that you have received from your primary care physician, Dutch hormone testing, or GI map stool testing. In our initial free consultation, we discuss a symptom based questionnaire to determine what is best for you.
I also provide recipe and meal prepping resources. This includes a few packets of tried and true recipes that my clients have liked throughout the years, my favorite websites, and EatLove for personalized meal recommendations. Plenty of meal resources up my sleeve!
Practice better also has a food and mood journal, which is really helpful for reflection and included in the package. You can download their app, take photos of each meal, and reflect on mood, hunger, and energy levels before and after your meals. This also has a chat feature, so you can ask me any questions any weekday!
I also include a welcome package, including various resources that you will find helpful throughout your journey. I’ve included habit based books, Athletic Greens, LMNT, Generation UCAN, Four Sigmatic and Banza.
